Default Tanking101-class1+2 (in pictures)

Because people dont get it ... or perhaps are just plain dumb. Here's a class for tanking ... two infact ... and I drew pictures to help you have a clue.

Holding Aggro is what a tank is for on a team. A tank is not "boom, boom, cannon" tank ... in fact, the word tank seems inadequate, so my first suggestion is that as a "tank" you start reciting this phrase. "I am a sponge".

Class 1

NOTES! -
- Notice the sponge is the only team member to start "The Aggro"
- "The Pull" is not to drag a group of baddies to the casters, but instead to group up the baddies.
- Why is the sponge running away from his team? because we have two groups instead of one. "The Roundup" will get all the baddies together! (wow)
- "The Set" is showing all the baddies in one place ... BUT the melee are on the near side of the pile... warning: a group could aggro those.
- "The Pile" is only a safe pile when the sponge is closer to the group than any baddie. Its easy to do. Just take a couple steps backward (wow)

Class2
We're getting wild! Using a corner to your advantage.

- Again! the sponge is the only team member to start "The Aggro"
- "The Set" in this situation is strange you may think. We have two groups whats the benefit of that! (corner)
- As a tank you can't ensure this happens, but look at group on "The Approach", staying out of sight of the ranged and caster baddies.
- Melee drops like flies, and you can now go snag that group of caster/ranged. For "The Set, take 2"

Tanking is stupid and makes the game boring.

Oh yeah, and it doesn't work.

It does work. Only if the tank is pre-protted well enough, and they are patient enough for the mob to settle on the tank before moving in to nuke/heal. Best utilized if a caster tanks, low armor registers for the Ai as a priority target, warriors with their high armor can quickly easily lose the aggro when the team moves in, even if the aggro seemed set on the warrior. Of course it works, it exploits the low lvl Ai. Of course it works, it is the primary and nearly ONLY way DoA or other elite zones are done...

However, i agree. Being forced to tank in so much of the "hard" stuff in this game makes things so boring and kills my motivation to play all-to-often.

Oh ya, and nice guide. MANY out there have no clue what actual tanking/aggroing is. This could go into the community works section!

cheers.

Firstly...tanking is indeed stupid, warriors have amazing dps and should be used for that. however, your guide is a good for warriors who intend on going to the Domain of Anguish etc.

Secondly...it's not usually the warriors fault the aggro doesn't stay on him, it's usually the ele that thinks running up and casting meteor shower on a mob right away even though they'll move is a good idea.

Interesting guide, but most of it has been stated before or common knowledge for any seasoned Guild Wars gamer.
